Richland County restaurant inspections: critical March 13-15

The following restaurant inspections with critical violations were conducted by Richland Public Health between March 13 and March 15:

● GLCAP Migrant and Seasonal Head Start Shiloh Center, 26 Mechanic St., Shiloh, March 13. Hot water for mechanical sanitization is below required temperature (critical repeat). Observed dish washing unit gauge for rinse water temperature to only reach 160 degrees. During re-inspection, person in charge (PIC) stated the company has been notified and the part has been ordered. PIC is to email specialist email from company with date of repair. Repair by March 27.

● Bell Stores #112, 1330 N Lexington Springmill Road, Mansfield, March 13. PIC unable to demonstrate knowledge by having no critical violations (critical). Multiple critical violations observed at time of inspection. PIC unable to demonstrate knowledge of cleaning and sanitizing (critical). Correct by March 22. Employees are not informed in a verifiable manner of their responsibility to report information about their health (critical repeat). PIC unable to locate employee illness reporting agreements. Correct by March 23. TCS foods not being cold held at the proper temperature (critical, corrected during inspection).

Observed internal temperature of half & half in automatic dispenser to be 47 degrees. PIC discarded product. Refrigerated, ready-to-eat, TCS foods not properly date marked (critical, corrected). Observed bags of half & half, whole milk, and iced coffee not date marked. PIC unsure when bags were opened and discarded at time of inspection. Improper display of poisonous or toxic materials offered for retail sale (critical repeat, corrected). Observed lighters stored on counter above packaged candy at register, as well as lighter fluid stored above bottles beverages in back storage room.

● The Waterford At Mansfield, 1296 S. Trimble Road, Mansfield, March 13. Handwashing sink is being used for purposes other than handwashing (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed a pitcher sitting in the back handwashing sink. Improper storage of poisonous or toxic materials (critical, corrected). Observed soap stored on a shelf above boxes of distilled water in the storage closet. Improper storage of poisonous or toxic materials (critical, corrected). Observed a spray bottle of hand sanitizer stored on a shelf above the ice cream bowls.

● Family Dollar Store #23628, 1314 Park Avenue West, Mansfield, March 13. Person in charge did not ensure that employees observed foods as they were received (critical, corrected during inspection). PIC verified that temperatures are not being taken on cold items once delivered. Ensure facility has access to thermometers in order to taking temperatures of received cold items to ensure they are 41 degrees of below. Education provided at time of inspection.

● Nickel & Bean, 27 E. Main St., Lexington, March 14. Missing and/or incomplete allergen declaration(s) (critical repeat, corrected during inspection). Observed dried apricots that may contain sulfur dioxide without labeling indicating so. Ensure all food products packaged and/or produced in house have allergen information. PIC pulled items from sale at time of inspection.

● Lexington Child Development Center, 236 Otterbein Drive, Lexington, March 14. Refrigerated, ready-to-eat, TCS foods not properly date marked (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed apple sauce and pizza sauce in the freezer that had been opened to not have a date mark. Once opened, ensure a date mark is placed on the item with 6 days plus the day of opening. If placed in the freezer then taken back out, ensure the items is only used for a total of 7 days not including time in freezer.

● Wicky's Smokin' BBQ, 2240 Pavonia Road, Mansfield, March 15. Food contact surfaces not easily cleanable (critical, corrected during inspection). Through discussion, it was verified that scissors that are not easily separable are being used to cut open food packaging. Ensure scissors are maintained clean and are easily separable for easy cleaning through wash, rinse, sanitize and air drying methods. PIC stated they would discontinue use of scissors for food packages.

● Spanish Immersion, 240 Euclid Ave., Mansfield, March 15. PIC did not ensure employees are properly maintaining temperatures of TCS foods during hot and cold storage (critical). During inspection, food was not being monitored for proper hot holding. Instruction given to PIC. TCS foods not being hot held at the proper temperature (critical, corrected during inspection). Chicken sandwich measured at 126 degrees. Hot holding steam table was using shallow pans and replaced with deep pans.

● Gionino's Pizzeria, 176 B E. Main St., Lexington, March 15. Refrigerated, ready-to-eat, TCS foods not properly date marked (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed a container of spinach that was not date marked. PIC voluntarily discarded spinach at the time of inspection.

● Little Blessings N More LLC, 250 Glessner Ave., Mansfield, March 15. Working containers of poisonous or toxic materials not properly labeled (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed a container of bleach water that was not labeled. Manual wash solution not being maintained at 110 degrees or above (critical, corrected). Observed the wash water at 97 degrees in the three-compartment sink. PIC added hot water at the time of inspection.
