The Smart Spraying solution from Bosch BASF Smart Farming will go into series production for the first time at Herbert Dammann GmbH (Germany) in March.

The Smart Spraying solution combines Bosch’s high-tech camera sensor technology and software with digital agronomic decision support from xarvio Digital Farming Solutions.

The weed management system will be integrated into Dammann‘s product range of intelligent crop protection sprayers and will initially be available in Germany and Hungary. The first sprayer for practical use is expected to be delivered in spring.

“Farmers now have a reliable field sprayer for optimal crop protection that is easy to operate and ready for immediate use,” says Florian Gwosdz, Co-Managing Director Bosch BASF Smart Farming.

The Smart Spraying solution enables automated detection and control of weeds in real time, both before (“green-on-brown”) and after (“green-on-green”) seed emergence. When crossing a field, the system distinguishes crops from weeds and controls the individual spray nozzles of the crop protection sprayer with pinpoint accuracy within a few milliseconds. Crop protection agent is dosed correctly and only applied where it is really necessary.

By connecting to xarvio Field Manager, the solution is to givs farmers concrete insights into their weed management. In addition, the connection provides digital support through, for example, individual agronomic recommendations, weed distribution and application maps, automated sensitivity levels and user-friendly documentation, including for reporting.

Konstantin Kretschun, Co-Managing Director Bosch BASF Smart Farming, adds, “The introduction of the Smart Spraying solution to farmers in Germany and Hungary is an important success and step towards optimising the use of crop protection products. It also helps to meet future regulatory requirements and EU pesticide reduction targets.”

The Bosch BASF Smart Farming joint venture is responsible for global sales of the technology. According to the company, worldwide field tests at various locations under different agronomic conditions have shown that the Smart Spraying solution enables more efficient use of herbicides without compromising on weed control.
